Food For Thought
Can you answer, within 20 seconds, how much money you earn each year?
Most people can.
Now answer this...
How much do you actually spend each year?
Most cannot come up with the answer off the cuff.
Think about that. You know what comes in, but not what goes out.
That's kind of like driving your family down the road without looking through the windshield. You could be headed right toward a proverbial cliff and not even realize it!
When people hear the word budget, they think restrictions, spreadsheets, and saying no to everything fun.
But that's not what a budget has to be.
A budget is simply knowing where your money is going.
Let's just call it a spending plan instead.
The goal isn't to spend less. The goal is to spend intentionally.
You might be thinking, "I may not know it offhand but I can sit down and figure out where my money goes."
Great. That's exactly what a budget is.
It's taking the time to make a plan before the money disappears instead of wondering afterward where it went.
At its core, a spending plan helps you make conscious choices with your money rather than letting the spending happen to you.
Because there's a big difference between choosing your bills and chasing your bills.
Your money will get spent either way.
The question is, Will you decide where it goes, or will it decide for you?
